She is a member of Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church of Cordele and of the Woodrow Bivens & Inspirations Gospel Singers, The South End Garden Club, The Crisp County Chapter of The NAACP, a board of directors member of Southwest Georgia United as well as West Central Georgia, a former president of the William N. Cobb Unit 542 American Legion Auxiliary and former arbitrator for The Cordele Housing Authority.
Currently, Vesta Beal Shephard is serving as Cordele, Georgia’s, Ward 1, City Commissioner after retiring from Crisp Regional Hospital as Director of Medical Social Services. She is an advocate for people with disabilities, a certified HIV/AIDS counselor and a 60 plus gallon lifetime blood donor.
In her leisure, she enjoys reading, watching TV games shows, good conversation, especially enjoys cooking, and is said to have “never met a stranger”.
